The Descendants of Johann Martin (Hannes) Schiedel (1770-1846)

   Johann Martin (called ‘Hannes’, short for Johannes) Schiedel was the first of his family to emigrate from Germany (Botenheim, Württemberg) to America (Montgomery County, Pennsylvania) in 1817.[simple_tooltip content=’1. It is the objective of this essay to clarify his lineage thru primary sources where possible.

   13 iv. GOTTLIEBIN SCHIEDEL was born 30 Mar 1798. He emigrated to Pennsylvania.[simple_tooltip content=’37. The emigration party in 1817 consisted of 12 persons. This count included Hannes and his wife and 10 children. Since there were only 9 living children at that time, it must have included Gottliebin although there are no findable records in Pennsylvania to demonstrate his presence.’]37[/simple_tooltip]

   15 vi. ESTHER ELIZABETHA (Hester) SCHIEDEL was born 21 May 1801 and died 7 Jun 1888 at Floris, Davis, Iowa. She married 1820 at Somerset, Pennsylvania Adam Minnick.    21 xii. MARIA HEINRICKA SCHIEDEL was born 25 Jan 1810 and died 30 Mar 1810.

   22 xiii. ROSINA DOROTHEA SCHIEDEL was born 22 Mar 1811 and died 12 Dec 1891 at Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania/buried in the German Lutheran Cemetery (reinterred). She married 8 Dec 1856 at St. Michael’s and Zion Church, Philadelphia Christian Peter Pfreund son of Johannes and Barbara Pfreund. He was born[simple_tooltip content=’42.    28 v. JOHANN (John) R. SCHIEDEL was born 9 Feb 1832 and died 5 Mar 1916 at Breslau, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. He married (1) 27 Feb 1853 at Waterloo, Ontario Elizabeth Shoemacker; she was born 1828 and died 1854 (childbirth?).[simple_tooltip content=’61. After 20 years they left to live with dau Catharina near Waterloo; he was deacon in the Mennonite Church. A dau with Elizabeth, and five children with Hannah.

He married (1) 17 Mar 1857 at Waterloo, Ontario Magdalena Wanner Miller. She was born 13 Oct 1833 and died 22 Apr 1872. He married 15 Aug 1859 at Wellington, Hillier, Prince Edward, Ontario, Canada Margaret (Maggie) Rogers; she was born 1838 at Ireland and died before 1911.
