  1. Thank you so much for this information. My 2nd great grandmother was Sarah Alydia Terry Winsor, dau. of Thomas Sirls Terry II. There has been much shared in family books, on the history of our line to Thomas Terry b. 1653, though nothing as comprehensive as this.

I appreciate knowing the details of David Terry’s removal to Ontario. I also am now scrubbing the web for information on his wife, Grace Davis, who pre deceased him by 10 years. I did not find her buried in the same cemetary, Gwillimbury, East Township, Ontario, rather buried in Chester Co. PA. (no source or citation for this.)

Again, many thanks for your beautiful web site.

    Lani Davis (Lila)

    1. Your note was most gratifying. Thank you. I too have looked long and hard for more info abt Grace Davis and did not find her grave in either Ontario or Bucks (which does not mean it is not there). I figure she came from one of the two extended Davis families in Pennsylvania down by the Maryland line on either side of New London in Chester County, but I’ve not spent much time looking; she might be buried there as well. Good luck–let me know if you find anything good.
I too am a descendant of Thomas Sirls Terry, cousin. You will be interested in the essay I am well into now…’The Capeharts of Northern Philadelphia’…I’ve been working a couple of years trying to straighten out the mess that is the published genealogy of this family.

  2. A person contacted me yesterday on Ancestry.com and gave me this link. Thank you! My line stays with the 3rd generation “John”, and that line stayed in Bucks through 1930, when my dad would move out to northern California. I passed this link on to Mike Terry, Terry DNA coordinator. He’s already posted it on the TERRY Facebook page.

    1. Thanks for your comments. I am of course familiar with your name and tree from Ancestry and appreciate the good work you have done on the PA Terrys.
Thanks also for passing on the information about the website to Mike Terry; it produced a big effect on the number of visitors to the site. But I couldn’t find where he posted it–can you pass on the URL to me?

  3. Dick….this is quite late, but didn’t realize you responded to my post and asked me a question. I just looked at the Terry DNA site and the message is still on there. The date was July 25, 2013.

The Terry DNA page is: https://www.facebook.com/groups/216287098393671/

    Patrick

P.S. Is there still a Nevada Lodge close to your area? I bused tables there in the summer (early 70’s)

    1. Thanks, Patrick. I still can’t get in…it says there is ‘no content’…doesn’t matter. I need to address the question of where the Bucks Co. Thomas Terry came from. I’ve checked out all the other New England Terry families and pretty much ruled them out, except for the Long Island Terrys. I think DNA is our only recourse, but the stuff in the Terry Newsletter is tough to interpret because we don’t know the lineage of Terrys for whom we have DNA sequences.

  4. Dick – I sent you a message this morning, but it’s in the FAQ section. I can’t remember if you also have my email. It’s: papatee91@gmail.com

  5. Hi, I am a descendant of John Capehart (Kephart) (1783) and Rachel Ott. I am trying to determine John’s father. I have read your essay and see that you believe it is Henry Capehart (1756). Do you have any sources besides tax records that this Henry existed and is the father of John and the son of Heinrich Gebhardt. All the the list of Heinrich sons that I have seen do not include Henry.
    Thank you,
    Ellen Capehart Hall

    1. Hello cousin…thank you so much for melding yourself.
Unfortunately, I included in the the June 2017 essay all the sources I had discovered at that point in time and I have not worked in this area much since. I can offer you some help however: despite the paucity of paper sources in this area, particularly with regard to the birth and family details of Henry Capehart (6 in the essay). at-DNA has confirmed absolutely that we are cousins–you are descended from Henry’s son John C. Capehart (20) and I am descended from his sister Elizabeth (19), therefore our Common Ancestor is Henry Capehart (1756-1815). I show a strong match 15.9 centimorgans to a ‘1_judyhatfield’–if you have your DNA sequenced at Ancestry, you should find her in your matches. She is also a descendant of John and Rachel (Ott) Capehart thru their dau Nancy. She has a tree on Ancestry ‘price-2(2)’ and has several more generations of Otts, but NO sources. Unfortunately, she has messed up the Capehart line going back and has undoubtedly not seen my sourced essay. If you have trouble finding this online, let me help–my email: tolman29@yahoo.com. Good luck.

    2. Hi…you may want to check out the new ‘Henry Capehart’ essay on the 29deadpeople website. Best wishes, Dick

  6. Thank you for your work on the Terry lineage. I am a descendant of Thomas Terry in the Thomas -> Jasper -> John -> John -> Joseph -> John V line and your Addendum #3 work was critical in connecting the work my family had done back to the mid-1800’s with earlier generations. Much thanks.

    1. You are very welcome, cousin. I am now working on the Hampshire and London Terrys that hopefully will take the line back another couple of generations from Thomas and his dad Robert.
      Thanks for your comment.

  7. Good day, Dick. I hope you are able to find this message, for I have been very frustrated to know how to write to you, not being proficient in xml language. Eventually I found this box, so I’m trying this today. I have researched the Terry family of Bucks Co. for many years, and I have a good bit of additional information to share, and even some corrections to what you have posted. Please get in touch so that we can dialogue.

  8. Hello Jim…pleased to make your acquaintance. You may comment info about the Terrys on this page if you wish. I usually make these comments public…if you wish more privacy, you may write me at my email address: rltolman41@gmail.com. I routinely update these essays as I receive no information to add or change, but I am always glad to have new sources and info and to meet new cousins. Dick Tolman

  9. Hi Dick,
Thanks, I’m glad you did see my note from several months ago, but I only check this page very sporadically. Today I saw your latest update on the Terry family from this month. I haven’t had the time to look at it, but I will surely have some comments. I have done quite a bit of detailed research on a lot of these interrelated Bucks Co. families, working from the original records in Doylestown, Philadelphia, etc. I have no problem with having my information be made public, but because of the extent of it, for the time being I will write you privately now that I have your e-mail address. I’ll look forward to some dialogue, insofar as that would be of interest to you. Thanks again. Have a good evening. Jim
